Inspiring kids

What a great conversation I had with a 5th grade boy yesterday! This litttle guy, I will call Tom, came up to me and said, "Mrs. Hayes, I am going to try to get around the high school 10 times today." (Let me explain, we do not have a track, so we run to the high school and through a trail behind the school.  Those that have just started running walk/run around the school as a track while they wait for those who are on the trail.)  This little guy has been eating 12 mcnuggets almost every night because his mom works at McDonalds and that is what she brings home for dinner.  So you can imagine his size at the moment.  I ran with him up a steep hill and he made it all the way to the top without stopping and was so excited.  When I came back after I was in the trail with a group of other kids, he had made it around the school 4 tiumes.  I told him 5 times is good for the first day and that I would run with him for his last lap.  He barely finished, but he did!  I am so excited for him and can't wait to see how he does as the running club continues!!  Love working with these kids!  Their energy keeps me going!

Busy Weekend

Wow, Even with a long weekend I only was able to get in one run in three days.  I am loving being in charge of a running club.  Great weekend with my kids though, I have to appreciate this time with them while I have it.  Spent a great day shopping and taking them out to lunch on Friday.  Sports day on Saturday, lots of soccer.  The boys had a tough loss, but played great.  Love seeing Kelly take charge on the field.  I should have run to the game and then would have gotten that out of the way.  Oh well!  Nice Easter Sunday.  Took the dog for a long walk and spent the day with extended family.  One more week until school vacation!!

Running club started this week.  Now I can run twice a week before 4:00!! It is not an ideal workout.  I basically run back and forth between groups of kids for 40 minutes.  I have learned to live with it.
I love spending time with 80 5th, 6th, and 7th graders.  They are so much fun after school, even if they can get a little crazy!
Teaching kids healthy habits and getting something off my daily to-do list.  A win win for everyone!!

Coming to Terms!

I can juggle it All!!  HAHA

I decided I can't do everything every day. Well, my chiropractor/therapist told me I had to stop doing everything every day if I wanted to walk when I am older.  I will only run  three days during the week and once on the weekend.  I want to cross train to get my body stronger.
